New cease and desist letter sent to Dallas HERO

DALLAS – Today, the City of Dallas sent another cease-and-desist letter to Dallas HERO demanding the group stop using a photograph of an individual appearing to be a Dallas Police Department police officer. Dallas HERO is using this misleading photograph on its campaign flyers advocating for the passage of City charter amendment ballot measures S, T, and U in the upcoming November election.

The stock photograph on their campaign flyers was modified to bear the likeness of the Dallas Police Department’s insignia, making it appear to be a photograph of a Dallas police officer, which it is not. The City, including the Dallas Police Department, are not affiliated with Dallas HERO and did not give permission for Dallas HERO to use the City’s badge or insignia. Moreover, the use of the City’s badge and insignia without permission is strictly prohibited by the Dallas City Code.

The City’s cease-and desist letter demands that Dallas HERO immediately stop using the photograph with the City’s badge and insignia in any form, including in any online, printed, or digital materials.
