The American Legion Post 511 is now recruiting local volunteers and supporters of the “National Wreaths Across America Day.” Congress designated the second or third Saturday of December for remembering and honoring those who served in the armed forces by placing a Christmas wreath at their gravesites. This year’s event will be held on December 14, 2024.
Post Commander Richard Batiste said “Sponsoring a veteran’s wreath is a personal gift of gratitude for someone who served this country so that we can be free.”
According to Kimberly Wheeler, President of the American Legion Post 511Auxiliary, sponsor of the event, “You will be joined by more than two million volunteers and supporters in all 50 states, at sea and abroad”
The event will be held in Dallas, Texas at the Honey Spring Cemetery also called Joppie Cemetery from 9:00-10:00 am. “This will be our third time sponsoring this event” stated Michael Gipson, Son of a Veteran. “We chose this cemetery because the enslaved fought in every war before emancipation and they too deserved respect and dignity.”
