Former Howard running back Ian Wheeler made his NFL preseason debut with the Chicago Bears, and he quickly made an impact.

Wheeler produced a game-high 43 rushing yards on five attempts, scoring two touchdowns as the Bears beat the Buffalo Bills 33-8.

The former Bison is the only rookie running back on a Chicago Bears team that also features former Pro Bowler D’Andre Swift.

Wheeler played for Howard from 2019-2023 being named to three All-MEAC teams.

He recorded 2,500 all-purpose yards and scored 18 total touchdowns, including 14 rushing touchdowns and three kick return touchdowns.

This past season, Wheeler helped lead Howard to its first outright MEAC title since 1993 and a berth in the Celebration Bowl.

In the Celebration Bowl, he returned three kickoffs for 124 yards, including a 63-yard return on the opening kickoff.
