AUSTIN, Texas – Today, President Joe Biden addressed the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library to honor the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Since taking office, the Biden-Harris Administration has worked tirelessly to fulfill the Civil Rights Act’s promise of freedom, inclusion and prosperity for all Americans.

Texas Democratic Party and Texas National Delegation Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“Sixty years after President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Americans’ sacred civil liberties are under attack by MAGA extremism. Here in Texas, we know how far Republicans will go to roll back progress on equality and voting rights protections. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, Democrats have advanced civil rights across the country. On day one, President Biden signed an executive order advancing racial equity, and since then has worked with Vice President Harris to enact historic anti-hate crime laws, expand anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Americans, and introduce new rules to combat housing segregation.

“With much work still to be done, Democrats remain dedicated to a more equitable America. It was a Texas Democrat that met the challenges in 1964 and it will be Texas Democrats that meet those challenges again in 2024. This November, we must rise to the challenge, uphold the legacy of progress, democracy and fight tirelessly to ensure a just and equitable future for all.”
