There are plenty of ways to stay cool while exploring the beauty and wonders of nature this summer at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.
In addition to the many shaded paths and water fountains or bottle refilling stations located throughout the grounds, staff offer the following tips to beat the summer heat:
- Visit early: Start the day with a refreshing morning walk. The garden opens to the general public at 8 a.m.
- Relax in the Shade: Stop by the Swinging Summer Hammock exhibit featuring 150 hammocks nestled in the shade of the peaceful Pecan Grove.
- Get Misty: Savor the cooling waters of more than 8,000 square feet of misted space throughout the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.
- Access Some AC: Take advantage of air-conditioned facilities: The DeGolyer House, A Tasteful Place, and the Exploration Center and Café at the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. (Note: Admissions will notify guests of any facilities with scheduled programming during their visit.)
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the visit. Water fountains and bottle refill stations are available at the main entrance near the information booth, the Alex Camp House, and throughout the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.
- Dress light: Wear lightweight, breathable clothing to stay comfortable in the heat.
- Sun Safety: Use plenty of sunscreen, and wear hats and sunglasses to stay protected from the sun.
- Ice Ice Maybe: Enjoy an ice-cold beverage or ice cream, available for purchase in the garden—and stop by the featured cold treat food truck every Friday.
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is located on the southeastern shore of White Rock Lake at 8525 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75218. The garden is also home of the nationally acclaimed Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. It is open daily from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through the months of July to September 20.
Daytime admission for the month of July is $5 per person, and free for Arboretum members and children under two. Admission to the Children’s Adventure Garden is an additional $3. Parking is $12 purchased online.
