Mosquitos test positive for west nile

Dallas County Mosquito Lab has notified the City of Mesquite Health division that mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile virus in zip codes 75149 and 75150. The State Lab in Austin notified the City of a positive result in zip code 75126 (Kaufman County).

Initial spray will be on June 28 after 10 p.m. in the following areas:

Neighborhoods near the intersection of Galloway and Oates Dr.
The neighborhood around Range Elementary School near Motley and Town East.
Neighborhood near Galloway and Town East intersection.
Along Tripp Road between Galloway and Beltline.
Neighborhood north of Heartland, south of I-20 in Kaufman County.

The plan is to spray for two consecutive nights. Spray maps are attached.

Weather factors such as rain and or wind may prohibit treatment of designated areas. If you are outside during the hours that mosquitoes are active, please remember to use an effective repellent product.

To help protect yourself from mosquito bites, remember the four Ds:

  1. DRAIN standing water on your property so mosquitoes won’t breed.
  2. Use insect repellant that contains DEET on your clothes.
  3. Stay indoors at DUSK and DAWN when mosquitos are most prevalent.
  4. DRESS in long sleeves and pants and spray repellant on your clothes.
