The defending SWAC Western Division champions added some more depth to their offensive core this weekend, as Prairie View A&M received a commitment from former Connecticut wide receiver James Burns.

Burns, a 5-foot-8, 160-pound senior transfer from Charlotte, North Carolina, entered the portal in the fall of 2023 after transferring to UConn from Austin Peay. In 2022, he caught 37 passes for 424 yards and five touchdowns for the Governors. He saw action in seven games for the Huskies in 2023, catching two passes for 21 yards.

Burns was a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com out of Rocky River High School and started his college career at Miami, Ohio.
