Alvin Doyle Johnson was born on December 26, 1954, to Alvin Oscar Johnson and Lois Lorine Carter. In his early childhood, he was fondly nicknamed Danky, but he hated the name in his adult life. Alvin graduated from South Oak Cliff High School, in May 1972, where he was a member of the of the band and was a saxophone soloist and in the Honor Society.

Alvin attended the University of North Texas, Denton, and graduated Cum Laude with a BA degree in Music where he played in all the Lab Bands. He graduated in May 1978 with Honors and was also in the Honor Society. He pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Phi Gamma Chapter in the Fall of 1973.

After graduation, he was a member of two bands, the Magic Tower Band and Vulcan Visions. He later worked as Band Director at Charles Rice and Thomas Tolbert Elementary Schools (DISD).

Rev. Johnson was a member of New Friendship MB Church for over 25 years. He served as Christian Education Director, Associate Pastor and Saxophonist. He also served as Minister of Music at the Crest-More King United Methodist Church for 4 years.

Alvin appeared on two mass recordings as soloist, the Gospel DFW Mass Choir singing “There Will Be Thorns” and the Gospel Music Workshop of America singing “Wake Up in Jesus’ Arms”. He debuted two albums, HELL IS REAL and WHO DO YOU LOVE. He received numerous opportunities to be a witness for Christ and perform these songs through the Coalition of Churches Prison Ministry, on Channel 5, Channel 29 and numerous community and church occasions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lois Elaine Fort (Robert); and two wives, Carolyn and Pamila.

He is survived by sons, Mathis Clay, Kiland Kyham (Yvette), and Sherrard Brown (Trevena); Daughters, Stephanie Tureaud, April Lee (Youngho), and Shekel Poole (Jerry); Nephews, Aubrey Sean Johnson (Tanya) and Robert Rashad Fort; Neice, Rashondra Calderon (Jamee); and a host of Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Other Relatives and Friends.
