Amid a fight for its survival after losing its accreditation in February, St. Augustine’s University has announced the athletic program will compete in every sport except one.

Having already announced that the Falcons’ football team will not compete in 2024, Athletic Director Dr. J. Lin Dawson said that the school will retain the remainder of its athletic programs in the upcoming season.

“SAU will compete in NCAA Division II competition across 11 sports this upcoming season,” said Dr. Dawson. “We are recruiting athletes ready to showcase their talent and dedication in sports offered for men and women, such as cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, basketball, and other sports such as volleyball, softball, and golf.

Notably missing from St. Augustine’s athletic lineup is football which the school announced earlier this month would be suspended until further notice.

The school’s football program faced problems independent of the school’s accreditation being lost with former head coach Howard Feggins six games into the season after being found to have played an ineligible player in a game against Virginia State.

Feggins later filed a $50,000 lawsuit against the university alleging he was fired unlawfully and was silenced about the team’s lack of support from the university.

University interim president Marcus Burgess claims the school would need $30 million for the school to be in good financial standing.
