William was born August 24, 1947, to E. V. Franklin and Ethel Washington Franklin. He received his education in Marshall, Texas, attending J. H. Moore Elementary School and H. B. Pemberton High School. William accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Westside Church of Christ and later attended the Grand Way Church of Christ.
William was always a hard worker. His first job, while in high school, was at Hotel Marshall. He later worked at Edwards Furniture Company until he was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1967 – 1970. After an honorable discharge, he resumed his employment with Edwards Furniture Company. During his stay in Marshall, he worked at various jobs: DARCO and Marshall Tile Company. William moved to Fort Worth for a brief time and was employed at Montheral Printing. After returning to Marshall, he worked at Republic Cabinet Factory for several years. He later moved back to Fort Worth where he resided until his death.
After William returned from the Army, he met Ivory Dee Fisher. They were later married and became parents to his only child, Kertina. When the marriage ended in divorced, they remained friends until her death, November 29, 2022.
William enjoyed life. He loved fishing and playing dominoes. He also loved cooking. He was often teased because he made the heaviest gravy that could be cut with a knife. He was an avid trash talker. His favorite topic was his dislike of the Dallas Cowboys. His presence will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those that knew him.
William was preceded in death by his parents and great granddaughter, JaMauria Richardson. He leaves to cherish fond memories: A devoted daughter, Kertina Franklin – Phillips (Michael); brother, Donnell Franklin (Joycelyn); sisters, Erma Diallo, Bettie Williams, Dorothy Franklin, Brenda Stafford; grandchildren, Kendrick Franklin, Jamilya Richardson, Kendrick D. Franklin; great grandchildren, Ziyuan and JaKynslyn Franklin, JaKai and JaKhari Richardson; aunts, Helen Alford, Carrie James; god sister, Ella Lacy (Jessie); bonus children, Roshunda Hughes, Winter Harper, Bobby Williams, Vickie Wilson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
