Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Southwest Suburban Dallas Chapter is partnering with Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School to help children who are in need.

Because of the collaboration students will be able to have access to clothes and supplies for the school year. There was a ribbon cutting on September 18 at 1 pm to celebrate the efforts of putting the Closet of Care together.

“I am always grateful whenever someone takes the time and the effort to be generous to our campus and our students,” said Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School principal, Umoja S. Turner.

For the Southwest Suburban Dallas Chapter, they have always strived to help their community and thought the elementary school was the perfect fit, said Natasha Harris, who is president of the chapter.

“There will be uniforms, toiletries, shoes, you name it, we’re going to try to put as much as we can in that closet,” Harris said, adding that the members are excited about having all the necessities in one place.

One of the organizers, Melanie Nash, who teaches second grade, thinks the closet will take the pressure off of parents and won’t be a financial strain, “Sometimes [students] don’t have the uniforms they need. Sometimes they come to the campus with their uniforms a little soiled.”
