There’s a new fire station planned for the city of Garland. The City recently announced that its new fire house, Station No. 6, will be located on State Highway 190 near its intersection with Campbell Road. The original Fire Station No. 6 was built in 1980 and located at 2009 Holford Road. The new project is expected to result in improved response times, a greater focus on firefighter safety and health, bunk-room facilities and training features. The station is the first of three stations to be replaced as part of the 2019 Bond Program, a series of projects receiving funding decided by a resident-led 19-member Bond Study Committee.
“The Garland community has shown outstanding support for the public safety professionals who work here,” Fire Chief Mark Lee said. “Part of that support is reflected in the approval of the 2019 Bond Program and the approval of the replacement of three aging fire stations.
“The firehouses of today add additional protections for the firefighters. And the demographics of the fire service have risen to the forefront when designing fire stations. If we protect our firefighters, they can continue to protect the community at the highest levels.”
The design of Fire Station No. 6 will begin in the fall and construction is anticipated to happen in 2022.
