Rufus Tatum

June 4, 1935 – January 3, 2023

Rufus Tatum was born June 4, 1935. He was born to CB and Ada Marie Tatum in Groesbeck, TX. He completed his education with the Groesbeck Independent School District.

Rufus Tatum

In 1956, Rufus united with Francis Tatum in holy matrimony. To this union, six children were born.

After 42 years as a diesel mechanic with APAC, Rufus retired and focused on his favorite pastime – training greyhounds. Lovingly known as The Dog Man, Rufus enjoyed training and racing championship greyhounds – winning the national grand champion three times during the span of his racing career. In addition to training his dogs, Rufus took great pride in maintaining his lawn. Everyone who visited knew not to walk on his grass unless they wanted a scolding.

Rufus was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his beloved wife, Francis; son Rufus Jr. and two daughters, Brenda Ann Richardson and Linda Dell Baker.

He leaves to celebrate life memories: two sons, Clayton (Tina) Tatum and Walter Tatum; one daughter, Demitree Tatum; one godson, Michael Jones; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and a circle of friends.
