Soiree Coffee Bar to host Jazz Notes Café, a monthly salon for writers

Next month, the owners of Soiree Coffee Bar and jazz venue in Dallas will begin having a special event for members of the local writing community.

Jazz Notes Café, a writing salon, will be hosted every third Wednesday evening by Linda Jones, a local journalist and writing consultant.

After having pop up writing clinics and jazz-infused writing salons at various Dallas locations for more than 10 years, Ms. Jones, also known as The Writing Doula, was searching for a venue with the right ambiance where writers could come and create in community, on a monthly basis. She asked Soiree owners LaFree and Clive Ryan if their coffeehouse located in the westside community of Trinity Groves could be that location. They accepted without hesitation.

“I love this concept,” said Ms. Ryan.  “We have had people coming in during our weekend brunches trying to write, but with live jazz being played it can sometimes be too noisy for them to concentrate.  This will be a perfect monthly alternative for them.”

Jazz Notes Café will launch during Black History Month on Wednesday, February 15, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The salons will continue to take place every month on the third Wednesday.

Ms. Jones will have reference books on writing during the salons and will be available to offer mini consultations with guests who may need writing advice or guidance. The Soiree bar will offer a variety of wine, soft-drinks, coffee, and decadent desserts as refreshments, and guests can  expect to hear curated jazz playing softly in the background to inspire their muse. The writing salon will not be a venue for open mic poetry and spoken word performances, but writers of all levels will have opportunities to step up and share their works-in-progress for feedback as time permits.

“Coffee houses are natural habitats for creative people,” said Jones, who comes to Soiree regularly to write. “I am grateful to have the opportunity to host my writing salons at such a classy coffeehouse where the owners support the craft.”

Located at 320 Singleton Blvd., Suite 190, with parking in the rear; Admission for Jazz Notes Café writing salon is $10.
