The Faith-based nonprofit OurCalling serves the unsheltered homeless in Dallas County. They are to making this Thanksgiving holiday meaningful and special for those who may have lost contact with family and friends. On Wednesday Nov. 23, approximately 250 volunteers will be on hand to help serve and share Thanksgiving dinner with 500-plus homeless men and women living on the streets, in the woods and under bridges.
Norma’s Café, a beloved Dallas institution known for Texas home cooking, is catering the decadent meals complete with turkey and all the fixings plus the requisite pumpkin and pecan pies. The morning will begin with a holiday-themed movie around 8:30 a.m. at the OurCalling location with Thanksgiving lunch to be served between 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Beyond the dinner, OurCalling supporters and the public have been asked to donate coats, warm pants and blankets to the facility as well at 1702 South Cesar Chavez Blvd., Dallas. Volunteers will be available outside the facility that day. Tax receipts will be provided. Parking is available at OurCalling. Their staff and volunteers will be outside to direct traffic and parking. More about OurCalling visit the website: www.ourcalling.org
