Funds will address critical needs for food, basic supplies, personal hygiene, education, human services and social/emotional wellness.
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (May 13, 2020) – Amerigroup Texas and its philanthropic arm, the Amerigroup Foundation, announced it has committed more than $1,000,000 in contributions to support COVID-19 relief efforts across Texas.
“Amerigroup Texas is standing with our communities to help those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis,” said Patrick Sturdivant, Amerigroup Texas President. “This pandemic has impacted every one of us in one way or another, and we are committed to working closely with our partners on the frontlines, our associates across the state and our communities to respond, recover and reimagine a stronger future for Texas.”
Amerigroup’s COVID-19 relief and recovery support efforts include:
- Financial support for Texas food banks to secure resources, meet increased demand and implement extra social distancing precautions as they continue to serve the most vulnerable members of the community. Food banks that have received Amerigroup’s support are located across the state, including in Tarrant County, North Texas, Central Texas, Southeast Texas, San Antonio, Houston and Wichita Falls.
- Boys & Girls Clubs in San Antonio, East Texas, Lubbock, San Angelo, Walker County, Greater Tarrant County, Rusk County and Amarillo have directed Amerigroup funds to address urgent needs that emerged amid the COVID-19 crisis, including access to nutritious food and learning opportunities for schoolchildren and families impacted by school closures.
- Financial support for hundreds of Texas nursing facilities, foster care communities, child care centers, faith based organizations and other community advocates. These organizations have also received hand sanitizers, digital thermometers, diapers, food and basic supplies to support vulnerable seniors, children, unsheltered and underserved residents.
Amerigroup’s parent Foundation also continues to work with partners such as the American Red Cross, Americares, Direct Relief and numerous others, to ensure access to emergency assistance for individuals and families, personal protective equipment and training for health workers on the frontlines, and food for kids and families affected by layoffs and school closures across the state. Additionally, during National Volunteer Month in April, the Amerigroup Foundation doubled its matching contributions to $2 for every $1 donated by its associates, and doubled associate volunteer credits to $20 per hour, which associates can earn and donate to the nonprofit of their choice.
In spite of the challenges of the pandemic, Amerigroup Texas associates have already logged more than 871 volunteer hours and raised nearly $75,000 for Texas charities.
