Many of us know John Amos as James Evans, Sr. from Good Times, buthe also starred in classic movies such as Roots and Coming To America and had a role in the play Split Second that earned him an NAACP Award for Best Actor. He most recently played in Coming 2 America and the Netflix comedy Me Time. However, before he hit the big stage, Amos followed his first passion. While at Colorado State University, he played football; after college, in the late 1960s, he played professional football for the Norfolk Neptunes! He even signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs but left the league to pursue a career as a writer. In 2017, he released his first Children’s book, A World Without Color.
The star has two children: son, director and actor, Kelly Christopher “K.C.” and daughter, writer and producer, Shannon Amos. Recently, Amos and his daughter Shannon took to TikTok to share a new challenge, #dancewithmyfather, calling all people blessed to have their fathers in their lives to get up and dance with dad. She captioned the video, “Enjoy your parents while they’re still here. So grateful for this moment with my Dad @officialjohnamos.”
“Can I get this dance?” Shannon asked. “Of course,” Amos replied with a smile on his face. At 82, he still got it! The two swayed back and forth to the Luther Vandross classic, “Dance With My Father.” It was so sweet watching this daddy-daughter duo share a moment that we might’ve shed some tears.
The video received 1.5 million views and over 240,000 likes. The comments put us even more in our feelings with people calling John “our dad” and “the best TV dad.” A lot of people whose fathers had passed were grateful for Shannon sharing this moment. We’re definitely grateful for being able to witness it, and we can’t wait to watch you all jump in on this challenge if you’re still blessed to do so!
