Queen Elizabeth II dies

Queen Elizabeth II

After serving 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II’s death dominated headlines around the world on Thursday, September 8, 2022. While expressions of sympathy were pouring, there were also cheers and mixed reviews about the British Empire of which she reigned over following the death of her father, George VI, in 1952, when she was 25. She was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor on April 21, 1926. She was 96.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson released the following statement after the death of Queen Elizabeth II:

“On behalf of the City of Dallas, I want to send our deepest condolences to the people of the United Kingdom. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a consequential and remarkable world leader — and a friend to our city, where she made an official visit in 1991. We mourn her passing.”
