Prime Minister Ariel Henry has declared July 7 a national holiday in Haiti to mark the one-year anniversary of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, then a sitting head of state.

The announcement came July 7 as Haiti commemorated the murder with activities throughout the country, including the capital and the Northern Department, where Moïse was born. The 58th president, was assassinated July 7, 2021 at his residence in Pèlerin, Pétion-Ville. The case has yet to be solved.

“The family of the deceased, the Haitian people and the Haitian diaspora won’t be able to mourn this loss until we get to the bottom of what really happened on the night of July 6 and 7,” Henry said during a ceremony at the National Pantheon Museum, MUPANAH.
