PORT-AU-PRINCE — The Haitian women’s soccer team defeated Mexico 3-0 during their second game of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship at the BBVA stadium in Monterey on July 7. The conference is a qualifier for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“We had a great game, That’s what’s important and I am happy,” midfielder Melchie Dumornay told the Haitian Football Federation (FHF).

Dumornay also thanked the Haitian people and vowed to strive for Haiti to qualify for the World Cup.

After being defeated by the US Women’s team 3-0 in its very first match on July 4, the Haitian selection redeemed itself with the win against Mexico. The goals were scored by  Roselord Borgella on a penalty in the first 14 minutes. Nérilia Mondésir took a penalty in the 67th minute and Sherly Jeudy scored a goal in the 78th minute.

“We are not yet satisfied, even if it is a great victory against Mexico,” Roselord Borgella said. “The task is not over yet, we’re waiting for the last match.”

The Haitian team is now in second place, just behind the U.S., keeping its chance of qualification for the 2023 World Cup in New Zealand and 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
