Muhlaysia Booker Foundation Congratulates Dallas Mavericks Player Reggie Bullock on Receiving NBA Social Justice Award!

DALLAS- We are excited and proud of Dallas Mavericks player Reggie Bullock for winning the 2022 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion award. Mr. Bullock is a true champion that is advocating for one of the most marginalized communities, the transgender community.

“I had the chance to be a part of an important conversation surrounding transgender awareness with Reggie back in March and we quickly connected”, said Stephanie Houston, mother of Muhlaysia Booker and Executive Director of the Muhlaysia Booker Foundation. “We have a similar story and connection with the loss of our loved ones to senseless violence.”

The last week has been tough for the Muhlaysia Booker Foundation and Muhlaysia’s family and friends as May 18th marked three years since her tragic death.

“We look forward to working closely with Reggie and the Dallas Mavs as we bring awareness to this cause that is so badly needed”, said Ahmad Goree, President of the Muhlaysia Booker Foundation. “I would hope that more NBA players and other professional athletes and teams would do the same as Reggie and the Mavs.”

The Muhlaysia Booker Foundation is a non profitorganization dedicated to providing housing, advocacy, emotional support, counseling, employment resources, and training to transgender women. We strive to inspire, nurture, and provide a safe haven to this community by addressing acts of violence, homelessness, sex work, and suicide. The Muhlaysia Booker Foundation’s overall mission is to empower transgender women be able to live a safe, long, productive, healthy, and happy life by assisting them with emotional and economic support.
