Register at Sound The Alarm (redcross.org) for a free smoke alarm installation from May 6 – May 22
WHAT: The American Red Cross is installing smoke alarms in homes across North Texas this May as part of our annual Sound the Alarm initiative. The Red Cross is rallying volunteers with the goal of installing 1,345 smoke alarms in 538 Rowlett homes on May 5-6, as part of the national Sound the Alarm effort to install 50,000 free smoke alarms in May. Local volunteers and community partners will also meet with families to help them create a two-minute fire escape plan, as well as sharing safety information on home fires and other local disasters.
WHO: North Texas residents in need of smoke detectors.
WHERE: North Texas
WHEN: Installations are appointment-based, with installations on May 6 – May 22 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WHY: Home fires claim seven lives every day in the U.S. but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half. The Red Cross launched the Home Fire Campaign in October 2014 with the goal of installing 2.5 million smoke alarms, making 1 million households safer in at-risk neighborhoods as well as educating families about home fire safety through free youth preparedness programs and activities.
