Sources have confirmed reports of the death of Judge Larry W. Baraka, on Monday, after a lengthy illness. Judge Baraka served as a Criminal District Court #2 Judge from 1985-1997. A graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa; he received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. A proud, unapologetic Republican, Baraka was the first Black Dallas County prosecutor to represent Texas in felony cases and the first Black district judge elected in Dallas County. He was 71.
