South Oak Cliff High School’s quest to bring a State Football Championship to Dallas ISD continued Saturday in historic fashion.

The Golden Bears defeated the Lovejoy Leopards, 42-21on Saturday in Frisco to advance to the state semifinal round. In doing so, SOC became the first Dallas ISD team to make it to the semifinal round since the Skyline Raiders in 2014.

The SOC Bears (13-1) will play Lubbock Cooper in the semifinal round. If they beat Cooper and advance to the finals, it would be the first time a Dallas team has made it to the finals since 2004 (Lincoln High School.)

The only state football championship for Dallas was won by Sunset High school in 1950. The 5A title won by Carter High School in 1988. They joy turned to disbelief when six of the football players were involved in an armed robbery, and an ongoing grades controversy stripped them of their title.
