A suspected arson fire left two people with burn injuries in north Oak Cliff on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to the 800 block of East 9th Street, near Jefferson Boulevard and Ewing Avenue, shortly after 5:30 a.m. They found a two-story home on fire, and two residents with burn injuries in the front yard.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, but not before it severely damaged the home, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

Evans said an off-duty firefighter pulled the two people out of the home after noticing the fire while on his way to work.

“The firefighter, while gratefully acknowledging that his efforts resulted in a more positive outcome than what could have happened otherwise, asked to remain unidentified,” Evans said.

Evans said investigators determined the fire, which started in the home’s living room, was arson. A suspect, who was not identified, was arrested on an arson charge.

The two injured people were hospitalized. Their conditions were not known Saturday afternoon.
