Oak Cliff Native, K Flewellen, Announces Candidacy for City Council District 4 with Voter Drive on February 11

Dallas, Texas: Oak Cliff, Texas has long been the center of community and service for Karon Flewellen, a native of District 4. On a weekly basis, you can find this successful business owner doing what she loves. K. Flewellen began her journey of being a full-time entrepreneur by following in the footsteps of her mother, who created a legacy of the Flewellen name. On the corner of Lancaster and Overton in the heart of Oak Cliff, Texas, K. Flewellen sits behind a black leather chair beautifying her clients and has done so for the past 30 years. The Flewellen family has been a staple in this community for more than five decades, and K. has seen first hand both devastation that has impacted District 4 as well as tremendous growth that has blossomed within her neighborhood. Yet, she knows it has so much more to accomplish and she wants to be a part of bringing a new voice to the City Council.

K. Flewellen is a Baylor University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Public Relations and has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus for her philanthropic efforts both in her community and abroad. K partnered with the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) to educate stylists on AIDS awareness and prevention. Through this collaboration, K. worked with the City of Dallas and UT Southwestern Dallas to launch FADE OUT HIV, a training initiative for barbers and stylists in predominately black communities to serve as awareness and prevention resources.

On Monday, February 11th, K. Flewellen will host a voter registration drive and officially announce her candidacy. This will be held at 12 pm at Pan African Connection located at 4466 S. Marsalis Ave., Dallas, Texas, 75216.  To RSVP for attendance please email KFlewellen4dallas@gmail.com or call 214-623-7023
